Slipped on a cold stone

It's been a few days since my last post, and I've been doing pretty well. We are trying to eat at home more, I'm trying to make better choices when we do eat out. Last night we grilled up some portabello mushrooms with some swiss and made mushroom burgers. I did slip up yesterday and let my craving for ice cream get the best of me, but it's not something I am going to beat myself up over. Head in the clouds, feet on the ground, and eyes straight ahead. It's time to make like an efficient emergency room and lose the weight! (wait) (okay, I tried) (tar-dar)

Mmm... Mmm... Good

I know it isn't Friday yet, but Clam Chowder just seemed so tasty today. If you don't understand the Friday->Clam Chowder reference, you either aren't a big "soup" person, or you've never worked in the food industry. Most, if not all, restaurant's soup-of-the-day on Fridays is Clam Chowder.

I'm still unsure of what kind of format I want to persue on this blog, whether I list my calorie intake, my Weight Watcher points, or what. I'll play around with it for a while until I figure it out.

Lunch at Engrained

Sun Devil roll and cucumber salad. I wouldn't necessarily recommend the cucumber salad unless you are a fan of pickles. Otherwise, it was a great lunch!

Back story

Way Back
I was always a small kid. Graduating from high school I weighed in at 120lbs. Right after high school I went into the US Marines and bulked up a little, but I was still very small at 140lbs, 5'7". I was injured in the Marines, and in 1997 I walked away with a corrected hernia, a sceptoplasty, two broken wrists and two bad knees. The knee and wrist injuries made it pretty difficult to do or even want to do much exercise. Now in 2009, I am pushing 200lbs.

Not too far back
Back in December, I think it was, I woke up in the middle of the night with terrible stomach pains. We went to the emergency room and I was diagnosed with gall bladder disease, and that my gall bladder had to be taken out. And it was. A few months later, I had similar pains while I was at work, and it was back to the emergency room. They ran tests to see what was causing the pain this time. They determined that it was a gall stone that was left behind during the surgery, but the blood tests results told a different story altogether.

The specialist I went to see told me that, along with some genetic irregularities, I had a fatty liver which could very well lead to liver disease, and that I needed to lose about 10% of my body weight, which at that time, would put me at around 165lbs.

Now a-days
I weighed myself at 188lbs this morning, just under my 25lbs goal. My knees are especially painful, more than likely because of the extra weight and strain I have been putting on them.

Follow me in my next chapter while I try to reach my goal: 25 for 50.

The Beginning

Welcome, all you web-slingers. This is my journey to create a healthier life for myself. I will be logging (or would that be blogging) my weight loss, food intake, exercise, etc. As I try to reach my goal weight of 165lbs. I am currently right under 190lbs. That is where the 25 in the title comes in. And the 50? Well, I made a deal with my beautiful and highly supportive wife, Shannon, that if I loose the 25 lbs, then I would be able to buy myself a 50" TV. How's that for motivation?

Stay tuned, and I'll go into a little more back story on why I have to lose the weight.
